What is VISH?

- A highly modular infrastructure to implement visualization algorithms - It provides strong encapsulation between components - Abstract interfaces that allow to integrate VISH components into existing applications - It is not a visualization application per se, but comes with a standalone reference implementation of a GUI (qVISH, based on QT) - Special attention is given to interactive exploration of large datasets, using state-of-the art features of modern graphics cards. - Source code available for academic and personal use

This project is strongly related to the Fiberbundle HDF5 project, which is available also as a standalone library, including converters from many existing file formats.

As of now, a major development and contribution effort happens at the Center for Computation & Technology at Louisiana State University. See Vish @ LSU for more information. Other core developers reside in Austria and the UK.

Availability

VISH is currently available on a personal basis for Co-Developers via SVN from this server (under Windows, Tortoise SVN is a recommended tool) under the conditions of the Light++ License. Other conditions are subject to negotiations. Dual licensing for commercial purposes is an option and will need to be discussed on a per-case basis.

Please be aware that the license explicitly forbids usage in a military environment, especially weapon design is not permitted using this software (detailed legally valid formulation is to be found in the license). It is therefore not formally Open Source. In short, the license restricts usage to private and academic usage.

Details how to access the source code can be found at the Development page.

If you are interested to experiment with VISH and eventually contribute, register at ORIGO to get an account here and send an email to werner@cct.lsu.edu. Please specify your reasons of interest, envisioned application scenarios and that you accept the licensing conditions.

We have a Vish Mailing List - send email to vish-subscribe@cct.lsu.edu to subscribe.
